Arjuna UGM Electric Car Wins PLN ICE 2021 Award

YOGYAKARTA – The Arjuna Team of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) won the title of CHAMPION 1 CAR DESIGN in a national-scale competition, namely PLN Innovation & Competition in Electricity (ICE) 2021 which was held online on 7 May 2021 – 24 June 2021 by PT PLN (Persero) .
The head of the Arjuna mechanical department, Zaky Fadlurrahman, stated that the initial purpose of the team’s participation in PLN ICE 2021 was as an opportunity to test and hone the team’s skills and knowledge in aspects of electric car technology and good business development systems.
In its inaugural participation in the 2021 PLN ICE event which was attended by 45 teams from various students from all over Indonesia from the D3 to S2 levels, the UGM Arjuna team successfully won first place in the Electric Vehicle Design & Prototype Competition category by carrying the concept of an electric car named “DARUNA”.
“This result cannot be separated from the hard work and dedication of the team to continue to be committed to developing and innovating electric car research,” he concluded.
The competition organized by PT PLN (Persero) aims to encourage students to start innovating in developing environmentally friendly electric car technology research. Zaky explained that this competition consisted of three categories, namely Electric Vehicle Design & Prototype Competition; Electronic & Electric Appliance Design & Prototype Competition; and Business & Community Development Proposal Competition.
Initially, the UGM Arjuna team was an electric car team that every year actively participates in the Formula Society Automotive Engineer (FSAE) Japan competition which is held in Shizuoka Prefecture. The Covid-19 pandemic has caused the competition this year to be limited to only national-scale participants in Japan. However, this does not necessarily dampen the enthusiasm of the Arjuna UGM team to continue to innovate.
Meanwhile, the 9th generation Arjuna UGM team leader Inherenta Muhammad Amarutsli said that the Arjuna team has a vision to become one of the best Formula Student teams in Southeast Asia and even the world so that it will continue to do innovative and active work in every research-based competition. “Thanks to the positive results of this competition, we are increasingly determined to prepare for our main race in the 2021 FSEV India and the upcoming FSAE Japan,” said Inherenta.
Inherenta emphasized that the Arjuna team will continue to be committed to evaluating and improving the development of electric cars in the next generation. In addition, participation in the PLN ICE competition is also a means of proving that Indonesia’s young generation is ready to face the industrial revolution 4.0 in the aspect of environmentally friendly electric car technology.
